The town of Garwood was formed when residents got tired of paying taxes to Cranford or Westfield and not getting the
services they thought they deserved. This 1903 drawing shows Garwood had very few buildings. The image is from
above 4th Avenue on the north side of town (which was known as Oakland) looking south toward The Hall Signal Company
factory late to became National Gpysum..
